What does it mean when we say we are “green”?
We strive to maintain green standards that result in great care for our patients while protecting the environment. Our green measures include:
- We are a paperless office.
- We offer mercury-free restorations. We have also installed a special dry vacuum filtration system that enables us to dispose of old mercury fillings in an environmentally sound way, preventing pollution of our local waterways.
- We use digital imaging technology rather than traditional X-rays, which exposes our patients to 90% less radiation. Digital imaging also eliminates the need to use chemicals in the X-ray process.
- We utilize steam-based, surgical-grade instrument sterilization that contains no harmful chemicals and helps to reduce water use. We also use biodegradable sterilization solutions like thyme and tea tree oil to clean examination areas.
- Our compressor and vacuum require no water or oil.
- We use chlorine-free, high post-consumer recycled paper products rather than traditional paper products for both patient and staff use.
- We filter our drinking water and distilled water to eliminate the need for plastic water bottles that end up in landfills.
We also took several steps during the construction process of our new office to ensure an eco-friendly facility and building process. These steps included:
- All debris during the construction process was diverted to a recycling center.
- We used building materials like ceiling tiles and cabinet material with recycled content.
- We use rapidly renewable resources whenever possible.
- The interior of our building features bamboo flooring, low-emitting adhesives, and ultra-low VOC paints on the walls. The walls and furniture contain composite wood, such as the melamine used for the custom cabinetry, which contains no added urea-formaldehyde.
- We incorporate energy-efficient lighting, appliances, and office and dental equipment in order to reduce the total energy level required for daily operation.
- Each piece of furniture in our office is eco-friendly certified sustainable and/or kiln-dried hardwood frame.
- Much of the office and our dental supplies are made of recycled materials and disposed of by recycling whenever possible.
