If your toothbrush is ineffective, your twice-a-day brushing may prove ineffective as well. Make sure you take care of your toothbrush with these easy tips.
Store your toothbrush upright in an open area with excellent ventilation. If you must store your toothbrush in a closed container, for traveling or otherwise, do so for only shorts periods of time. Closed off areas are a great breeding ground for bacteria and other germs. Avoid additional germs by preventing cross-contamination. Never share your toothbrush with anyone else! This spreads bacteria and contaminates the toothbrush.
A worn out toothbrush is a useless toothbrush! Replace toothbrushes every 3-4 months–even sooner, if your brush bristles looks frayed or worn, or if your toothbrush gets contaminated.
If using a conventional toothbrush is difficult for you, consider switching to an electric toothbrush. This will help keep your teeth with potentially less discomfort to you. Whichever you decide on, make sure you use toothbrushes and (toothpaste!) that have earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance.
